Defend our pensions

More than 16,000 Sears Canada pensioners are losing their retirement benefits -- while the executives who drove the company to bankruptcy are walking away with more than $9.2 million in bonuses. [1]

Canada’s weak bankruptcy laws mean anyone who is counting on a company pension to support them in old age could face the same tragic fate as Sears workers -- and we have to do something.

MPs from the NDP and Bloc Quebecois are proposing new laws to force companies to make pensions the top priority when a company goes bankrupt. Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains says he is "open" to solutions but hasn't committed to support these laws. [2]

If thousands of us sign a petition today, we can convince the government to help pass these laws to defend our pensions. But we need to act fast, while the Sears story is all over the news, and the government is under pressure to respond.

Will you sign the petition now?
