Federal MPs: Stand against residential school denialism
For over 150 years, more than 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Nation children were taken from their families and sent to Residential Schools. Many faced incomprehensible suffering, in abusive environments where their language and culture were banned.
The Holocaust is a black mark on Germany, and Europe’s history, as Residential Schools and the planned genocide of Indigenous peoples is a black mark on Canada’s history. We must stand with survivors of residential schools and the Indigenous communities so that families and communities that are still healing from residential schools can continue to heal in peace.
Residential schools were a genocidal colonial project, and it is important that we recognize the atrocities of the past, in order to ensure they will never occur again in the future.
To: Federal MPs
Support Leah Gazan MP’s call to make it a crime to willfully promote hatred against Indigenous people by condoning, denying, justifying or minimizing the facts about residential schools.
Please stand in support of Bill C-413 and the amendment to the criminal code to include residential school denialism.
