Investigate X and Elon Musk for election interference
Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and Trump’s right-hand man, has officially endorsed Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
Musk has a proven track record of using his social media platform X to meddle in other countries’ elections — and we have every reason to believe he’ll do it again.
We can’t let Elon Musk interfere in Canada’s elections. Sign the petition for Elections Canada to launch an investigation into X to ensure our elections remain free and fair.
This is the petition we will send to Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault:
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has made it clear that he seeks to influence global politics. He has forged alliances with right-wing populist leaders, amplified extremist influencers, and spread hateful disinformation targeting marginalized groups.
Recently, Mr. Musk has turned his focus to Canadian politics—praising Pierre Poilievre, aligning himself with Canadian far-right influencers and their platforms, and openly criticizing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Given X’s immense power, any direct efforts by Mr. Musk to support a particular party or leader could significantly impact our electoral integrity. The platform’s lack of content moderation, the ease with which disinformation spreads, and the threat of foreign interference all present serious concerns.
That is why I am urging you to launch an immediate investigation into X and potential avenues for manipulation by Mr. Musk or right-wing influencers. Elections Canada must require that during the upcoming federal election, Mr. Musk commits to algorithmic transparency, allowing election observers to assess whether his platform is influencing the promotion or suppression of political content. Elections Canada should use all available resources to protect the integrity of our electoral process.
