Senators: Vote NO on Trumpian Mass Deportation Bill C-12
This week, Senators will be reviewing Bill C-12 — a Trumpian anti-immigration bill that would massively roll back the rights of refugees and migrants in Canada. Senators aren’t used to hearing from the public, so if we flood their inboxes with messages during this critical time, they could be compelled to vote down the bill — or make critical changes to it.
Here are some talking points to guide your message to Senators:
Introduce yourself, along with any personal details that show your relationship to this issue (E.g., I’m a mom in Kitchener with many immigrant neighbours).
Register your opposition to Bill C-12, the Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, and ask the Senator to oppose it.
Highlight some of the key issues with Bill C-12:
- Individuals who entered Canada after June 24, 2020 would become ineligible for protection if they apply more than one year after arrival.
- Bill C-12 would grant Cabinet the authority to cancel or suspend entire categories of immigration applications without individualized review — meaning that all visas, work permits, study permits, and permanent residence applications from a particular country could be thrown out.
- Bill C-12 would expand information sharing of migrants’ personal data, creating significant privacy and safety risks for refugee claimants and their families back home.
Reiterate your demand for the Senator to oppose Bill C-12.
